Arboricola Green, Schefflera arboricola
Scheffelera arboricola is the dwarf variety of the umbrella tree or Shefflera actinophylla. It is a prolific grower that does well in both full sun and partial shade. Left alone, a single plant will grow into a sizeable mound so use ample spacing when installing.
Arboricolas make a nice hedge with a unique leaf pattern. The cabbage palm grows right through the middle of the row of arboricolas.
Arboricolas can be kept short but you will have to prune them frequently. Here green arboricolas are planted next to the more showy variegated arboricolas in the first row of this planting arrangement.
Often small trees are planted in the center of arboricolas like these crape myrtles.
