Cabbage Palm, Sabal palmetto
The cabbage palm is the Florida state tree.  The Florida native is seen popping up everywhere.  Their abundance makes them an economical choice.  Most cabbage palms lose their boots, but some retain them.

Landscape design convention usually places three palms together.  Three cabbage palms frame the corner of this pool enclosure.  Confederate jasmine grows up one palm, and a pygmy date fills the gap between two cabbage palms.
The usual practice is to trim your palm trees about once a year.  These cabbage palms may have been trimmed too aggressively.  It is a good idea to leave green fronds intact.
