Laurel Oak, Quercus laurifolia

Next to the live oak, the laurel oak is probably the most abundant tree in this region.  Laurel oak is a fast growing, large tree with a short life span.  Many laurel oak trees begin to decline in as little as thirty-five years and will suffer from die-back and falling branches.  When selecting an oak tree, choose a live oak which is a much stronger tree that which can live for 300 years or more.
