Ligustrum, Ligustrum japonicum

Ligustrum japonicum is a small, versatile tree that is actually a shrub, but can be pruned into a tree.  Lower foliage is removed creating a tree form and exposing the interesting lower branch structure.  Ligustrum heads can be left unpruned for a natural look.
Here the heads of the ligustrum trees are sheared in congruence with the formal setting of this landscape.
The ligustrum trees form an interesting entrance to the path in this design.
