Ligustrum, Ligustrum japonicum

Ligustrum japonicum is a an extremely versatile, durable shrub.  They can be used as a shrub, tree, or hedge.  To the left of the photo low plantings hide the sparsley leafed feet of the formal ligustrum hedge.  To the right, two ligustrums are sheared into large spheres.

Leaves are pruned off the trunks of ligustrums to expose their interesting structure.  Tops can be pruned infrequently for a natural look, or sheared often for a formal setting.

Large sheared heads pave the way to the entrance of this community.
