Norfolk Island Pine, Araucaria heterophylla
Norfolk Island pine trees can reach heights of nearly ninety feet in this area. If you look up towards the tree tops you can often see a Norfolk pine or two shooting up in the distance. In more hurricane prone areas, there are few tall Norfolk pines because the winds tend to blow the tops off them.
Norfolk Island pines make an interesting specimen. In time, they often get too big, tending to dwarf a house. Planted in the right location they are exceptional. Notice the unique structure of the Norfolk pine in the back of this home in Orlando.
